Compote with Iridescent Glass Bowl, c. 1924

Bronze with dark brown chemical patina, with gold iridescent glass bowl (unsigned) by Frederick Carder, Steuben Glass Works, Corning, NY, or Lustre Art, Long Island, NY; base bears maker's Mark OBASO BRONZE (C) Oscar B Bach Studios. The obverse of the base bears the unfielded stamped mark OBASO.

Base: 11 1/2 x 5 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches
Diameter of bowl: 11 1/2 inches

The round platform base is supported by three applied button feet and is ornamented with an exterior ring of radiant rectilinear petals. Standing on this base are three monopod rams, each with a heavy hoof and acanthus leaf foliage on the knee of its cabriole leg. The rams' horns support a flaring ribbed cup that holds a Steuben Aurene glass bowl with a broad, thin rim that is delicately crenulated.
